MEMOREX ARMED AND READY FOR THE DVD BOOM!
Attractive prices in DVD mainstream products
plus a starter-kit promotion!
Memorex, the top international brand name in the world of digital media, is gearing its prices for DVD media towards current market trends. In terms of format, the product range is also being adapted towards the current trends in market demand. Even before becoming a mass consumer product like the CD-R, the DVD-R media has already undergone a rapid price decrease.
?In July of this year, the price for a DVD-R media in Germany was ?15. Today, you can purchase a DVD-R media for somewhere between ?4-5?, commented Rüdiger Theobald, Business Unit Manager for Optical Media EMEA.
According to Mr. Theobald, this trend can be put down to the greater capacity at production locations and the fast developing DVD market. Now, in the course of end-of-year business and the drop in hardware prices, the DVD is also to make more of an entrance in private households. In the area of consumer electronics this has already happened.
?Now that DVD films have finally made a breakthrough, a boom in the area of DVD-R media is also to be expected in the next few months?, continues Rüdiger Theobald.
A product which is set to hit stores in the near future is the ?multi-burner?, which can burn and play back any type of DVD format on the market. With the help of these accessories, working with DVD media will be uncomplicated. As to selecting the right format, Memorex adopts a clear standpoint on this front:
?The right option for us is whatever the customer demands: we?re concentrating on the mainstream. Memorex therefore offers write-once DVD-Rs and DVD+Rs, plus re-recordable DVD-RW and DVD+RW formats. RAM media, on the other hand, is more of a niche product for professional users who want to create regular data backups, so this type of media won?t be included in our product range?, summarizes Rüdiger Theobald.
This dynamic price trend goes hand in hand with the market trend for larger unit packs. In addition to the single jewel case, Memorex is also offering five-packs and ten-packs of media. In this way the products are more tailored towards individual customer needs. By 2003, Memorex expects to be one of the top three suppliers of DVD media in Europe.
The DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/RW have maximum write speeds of 2x and 2.4x respectively. The storage capacity of 4.7 Gigabytes is also keeping with current standards. One DVD can store around 4,700 colour photos, 120 minutes of digital video material, 240 minutes of VHS video material or 14 hours of MP3 audio material.
As a special promotion Memorex is also offering an attractive DVD starter-kit, which includes three DVD-R media, three DVD video jewel cases to protect the sensitive media, and four special DVD marking pens.
