Test af Tyan Tiger K8W

GamePC har testet Tyan's Tiger K8W, et ATX bundkort til to Opteron processorer. Bundkortet udmærker sig ved at være i almindelig ATX-størrelse, og det sigter imod hign-end arbejdsstationer.

The Tiger K8W is roughly one half the price of Tyan?s full-sized dual Opteron platform, the Thunder K8W. Of course, there are trade-offs, as the Thunder K8W can hold twice the memory, has PCI-X Ethernet and expansion slots, and the option for dual channel Ultra320 SCSI onboard. Still, as we?ve seen in the previous pages, most workstation applications show little to no performance difference between the Tiger and Thunder K8W platforms. The performance delta may grow larger with applications which use above 4GB of memory and push that memory hard, but still, we doubt there will be a large difference under any circumstance. While we have little doubt that the Thunder K8W will remain the choice for high-end workstation users who really want to exploit the benefits of the Opteron architecture, the Tiger K8W is a much better choice for those looking to dip their toes into the waters of dual 64-bit processor goodness.
