By the arrival of their 32 / 64 bits processors, which AMD announce as being revolutionary, AMD tries to follow their competitor Intel in the race of performances and Megahertzs.
To improve the frequencies and thus the performances of its processors that AMD introduced some months ago their first Athlon XP 0.13 microns 2200+ put rhythm with the real frequency of 1.8 GHz.
But it seems henceforth insufficient to fight against Intel who should announce Pentium 4 2.8 and 2.6 GHz in the comeback.
To face their competitor AMD thus decided to optimize at most the core of its Athlon XP associated to the technology 0.13 microns, and so this giant of the processor PC should announce on August 21st of this year its Athlon XP on 2400+ and 2600 +.
Contrary to the fact that one could believe these two new processors won't be put rhythm in 1933 and 2066 MHz, but to 2 and 2.13 GHz. AMD indeed decided for the release of these two new processors to revise their formula to calculate it's Performance-Rating which should even better stuck on the equivalences performances Athlon XP xxxx + = xxxx Pentium 4 MHz.
In the near future AMD also plans to equip their next processors Athlon XP with a 333 MHz FSB frequency, on this subject Catharine Abbinanti a representative of AMD declared:
"
The consumers showed their interess for a higher FSB frequency, we're studying this possibility. We're always interested in the novelties which could improve the performances of our processors. ". The president of NVIDIA reveal also during a conference that nForce2 was the first chipset to support this new FSB 333MHz frequency . However the new models 2400 and 2600 + to be released in next week won't use it.
Really, it's very likely that AMD introduces this new FSB with the next evolution of Athlon XP known under the codename "Barton" who'll notably offer a mask L2 of 512 Kb against 256 Kb for the current models and who should be born at the end of the year, before the launch of Athlon XP 64 bits.
All these novelties " FSB frequency of 333 and higher L2 512 Kb " will doubtless allow AMD to increase in a significant way the values of Performance-Rating used by its processors.
