AMD Opteron 248 vs. Intel Xeon 3.2A GHz

De to hurtigeste processorer, lige nu, til dual-processor systemer, bliver testet igennem i et Workstation-setup på GamePC. Det er en meget jævnbyrdig duel, når det gælder workstation-applikationer, mens en enkelt server-test viser sig til Opterons store fordel.

On personal opinion, I tend to lead towards the Opteron, and here?s why. While the Xeon has been an impressive processor for quite a long time now, the Opteron?s on-die memory controller separates it from the competition. Low-latency, high-bandwidth memory access simply makes everything feel smoother, and the fact that AMD uses dedicated HyperTransport makes systems which are heavily loaded with peripherals run better. The 64-bit abilities of the Opteron are a non-factor for me at this point. While it?s nice to know you can have 64-bit upgradeability in the future, this chip stands just fine as a 32-bit processor.
