The IBM eServer 325 comes in a custom designed 1U rack-optimized chassis. The compact 1U design enables customers to deploy substantial computing power in a small footprint. Using IBM's online configuration utility you can decide how to scale your system. As with most 1U servers, there is not a lot of space available in the 325 for extras options. IBM does however make good use of the limited real estate. The front panel has two removable drive bays (hot-swappable Ultra320 SCSI or nonswappable IDE), an optical drive, two USB 1.1 ports, as well as recessed power and reset buttons.

Powered by either one or two of AMD's 2xx series Opteron processors, the eServer 325 currently supports models 240, 242 or 244. The Opteron improves productivity through higher processing performance with an integrated memory controller and hyper-transport. The supports of both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures, allows for an easier migration to 64-bit computing.
