Athlon 64 2800+ på vej...

Indstigningsprisen til AMDs 64-bit platform kommer angiveligt endnu længere ned, når AMD introducerer en Athlon 64 med 2800+ som modelnummer. Athlon 64 2800+ kører med en clockfrekvens på 1.8 GHz, og har 512 Kb L2 cache, og den benytter samme 0,13 micron teknologi, som eksisterende processorer. I den anden ende af prisskalaen, finder vi snart en Athlon 64 FX-53 processor, som kører med en clockfrekvens på 2.4 GHz, den hidtil højeste i AMD64 familien. L2 cachen er på 1 MB, og der er støtte for Dual-Channel hukommelse.

Rather surprisingly, AMD added the Athlon 64 2800+ processor for desktops into its documentation. The chips run at 1.80GHz, incorporate 512KB of L2 cache and feature single-channel memory controller. Its thermal and other specifications are the same as those of other PGA754 chips from AMD. Pricing of the CPU has not been announced so far. Mobile AMD Athlon 64 2800+ is quoted at $193. Typically, desktop chips cost lower than notebook processors.
