Test: Synology USB Station

Konklusion:

USB Station, har været et lidt underligt, men også spændene produkt at teste.
Underligt på den måde, at det med USB Station faktisk er alt for let at sætte et "fil/print-server" op til et netværk, hvilket kun er godt.
Spændene, for det viser egentligt bare, at USB Harddiske kan bruges på utallige måder og at de har kompatibiliteten til at blive brugt på de utallige måder.

Innovation / Teknologi:
USB Station, er nytænkning inde for Netværks sharing til hjemmebrug og har valgt at placere det på USB Harddiske - 5 Point.

Bundle - Tilbehør:
Alt det tilbehør som USB Station kræver, følger med i pakken lige fra netværks kable til til Installations CD. Dog havde jeg gerne set en eller to USB kabler til tilslutning af USB Harddiske, så her gives 4 point.

Design - Layout:
Hvad angår Design, må jeg ærligt indrømme, at USB Station ikke er noget der kommer til at stå fremme så man kan se den hos mig. Designet kunne de godt have gjort noget mere ved, da den er for kvadratisk og kedelig hvid. Men dette er en smags sag, så derfor gives der 4 point.

Software - BIOS
Software og BIOS, er der intet at komme efter. Det er nemt og overskueligt - ikke noget overflødigt og der findes rigtig god beskrivelse og hjælp hele vejen igennem - 5 point.

Ydelse:
Ydelsen skuffer dog, da jeg havde forventet en del mere, men det kan godt skyldes kommunikations "oversætteren" fra TCP/IP til USB. Men den gør alligevel jobbet - 3 point

Pris:
Prisen på USB Station er 599,-. Hvilket jeg mener er en meget fornuftig pris. Og jeg mener godt, at man kan tillade sig at tage dette for den, når man ser på hvilken funktioner USB Station tilbyder. - 4 point.

The USB station have been a little weird to test but also quite exciting.
It has been weird in a way because the USB station is like way too easy to set up as file and print server in a network, which is good.
It has also been exciting because it shows that USB hard drives can be used in countless of methods and with a good result.

Innovation / Technology:
The USB station is innovative when talking about sharing the network at home and in a USB hard drive. 5 points.

Bundle / Accessories
All the accessories the USB station needs are enclosed with the package; everything from network cable to installation CD. It would have been lovely to see one or two USB cables enclosed to connect external hard drives.
I give a score of 4.

Design / Layout:
When it comes to design I must admit that the USB station isn't going to be placed somewhere visible at my place. The design could have been better; it is formed as a square and is white and boring. But it is a matter of taste so I give a score of 4.

Software / BIOS:
Software and BIOS doesn't have anything to point at. It is easy to cope with - nothing unnecessary and there is a really good description of the functions and help all the way through - 5 points.

Performance:
The performance disappoints a little. I've expected a lot more, but the communication translator from TCP/IP to USB can be to one to be blamed. But it does the job - a score of 3 is given.

Price:
The price of the USB station is 599,- DKR. I think this is a reasonable price and I think it is okay to sell it at this price when you look at the functions the USB station offers you.
