I have been having trouble with controlling a water pump on my motherboard, its an ASUS though, but i found that almost non of the motherboard manufactures make motherboards which are able to control PWM fans via PWM.

-- Hej

However, you should check the ratings on the pump!!! And bare in mind that I-startup is 6 times higher - with due respect, such should be on fancontroller or directly through molex, in case of a 18W pump, its 1.5A, or... Hold on... 9A during startup, that isnt easy on the mobo.

Hi unnamet,
since your motherboard is from another manufacturer I cannot be specific however I can try to give you some explanation.
To offer PWM support the motherboard also needs a chipset and different fan-headers than the normal 3-pin fan headers that your motherboard may have. The PWM options are more expensive and since PWM have not been as popular as one would think the costs has been kept down on motherboards since customer does not want to pay extra for features they do not use. Basically it's a price <-> demand reason.
GIGABYTE motherboards offers several PWM fan headers on most of our boards (Except the low-end models) and in our latest series almost all the fan headers offer PWM support. For instance we have 5 PWM fan headers on our popular mid-range GA-Z97X-Gaming 5 motherboard.
If you have a more specific question about one of our products then please do not hesitate to contact me again.
Yes it would be great if the MB had PWM control for all the fans, but it seemes to be to expensive. Anyway - if it was possible to by one, I would look deep in my pockets to find money to buy it 😀
I don`t know, but maybe it could be solved by making a seperate pci-e card with PWM controllers?.
