Kære fællesskab
Håber det går på engelsk:

Recently I purchased parts for my new Ryzen build. Everything was cool until I booted the machine for the first time. The temps inside BIOS was idling at 50 degrees. After installing Windows and reading temps in Speccy and HWMonitor the temps were reaching 100 degrees. This was just at IDLE on the desktop.

I shut it down and reapplied the CPU cooler and everything. Same results. I tried changing BIOS settings and the cables. Nothing helped at all. Temps were 100 degrees at idle on the desktop. Tried reappling the cooler another five times without success. At this point I thought that maybe the AIO was broken.

Then I remembered about the AMD stock cooler - maybe that would change something. I removed the standard AMD bracket and installed the stock cooler BUT, I got exactly same results. BIOS at 45 degrees and IDLE on desktop at almost 100 degrees.

So I've tried reappling same coolers many times - AND I've tried different coolers. Both liquid and air. What could be wrong? And yes, I am changing the thermal paste too.

PLEASE HELP. I have now been troubleshooting for 8,5 hours.

Use ASUS own software AI suites. you can´t trust speccy

Hi Cani. I've not downloaded Ryzen Master and that, despite of ALL other programs, shows an idle temperature on desktop at 38 degrees with the stock cooler. Should I just trust that and start installing all the necessary drivers? Thanks

Yes i would do that. You can also trust the temps in BIOS, but they are off cause in idle.

You can also install the program core temp, it´s also accurate.

But just to be sure, uninstall both Speccy and HWMonitor first.

B350 boards usually get hotter than the X370-470 chipsets, anyway at 100C (celcius) something is wrong.

Make sure you're using proper thermal paste (and amount),
would recommend Gelid GC extreme or similar

What bios version are you running? The latest one for your board is Version 4011. Released 2018/05/02 and can be found here

https://www.asus.com/us/Mother...

Check for auto overclocking on your board and turn it off (if its on by default and set to manual)

There have been many bios updates for that board, which includes many system performance improvements and updated AGESA & SMU

Thanks for your input. The BIOS version is 4011. I've also tried downgrading to 3803. I am using proper thermal paste etc.

Regarding the "stock" overclock, I think there's something to that - but I can't figure out how to turn it off. I've tried most of the settings, but the core voltage keeps hitting 1,4v constantly. I had it set to 1,25v at one boot, but accidentally changed it back.

You can easily write in danish. I do understand it to the fullest, but I just can't write it grammarly correct myself.

I've used to provided CM paste from ML240L cooler. The paste on the AMD Stock cooler and my own Arctic MX-4.

But even though these isn't great, it shouldn't throttle like that. I've used the Arctic fine in other builds.

But as stated above. CPU temps inside Ryzen Master is great idling at 37 degrees. Only thing is, that the "PTC (CPU)" temps is 95 degrees. I dunno what that means.

You're welcome.

Yeah thought it might have something to do with it. Many Ryzen motherboards have that, including my own and 1.4V is pretty high (even though amd says it can be pushed even further about to 1.45)

A good starting point would be as you've said 1.25V which the prior generation ran fine with, overclocked. The voltage could easily be the issue

You've tried reverting to defaults and since that didn't help, which is a bit weird. Are you sure it reverted all options to defaults? Otherwise resetting cmos could help do that. Then again turning off AI tweaker or the options inside the sub-menu, could help stabilize voltages.

The Vcore seems unnecessary high, but it is what most motherboards per auto set them to run (auto/default). The same goes for my Ryzen 7 2700X it runs 1.408v when 1 or 2 cores are loaded and it runs 4.125GHz, when more cores are loaded etc all 8 it runs 3.925/3.975GHz at 1.325~1.350v.
Still 1.425 is a bit much pr standard.

Also remember that Ryzen 5 2600X and Ryzen 7 2700X models have a +10°c offset. That means that 10°c is added to the actual DIE temperature. Speccy and Hwmonitor in the current versions only the offset temperature, but if you install HWinfo64 you can see both the offset temperature and actual DIE temperature.

Oh forgot something. If you have XMP/DCOP profile enabled, then disable it and try to set the ram timings manually. Sometimes the XMP profiles also messes with VIDD voltage.

#12: I've pulled the CMOS battery too. Everythings reset, but it's volting at 1,4.Do you have any idea how to change the settings on this mobo, so it would run 1,25v?

#13: Thanks. How about the Ryzen Master, does that show a 10 degree offset too?

If you use stock amd cooler. Put just a small drop in the middle of the cpu. Put on cooler, fasten it. Take it off and see if thermalpaste is evenly spread. If that is the case it could be a defekt cpu maybe?

There are countless of walkthroughs, guides and more on google, youtube etc. "Most" bios'es are the same anyway and often brand-specific with only the expensive models having a higher variety of options

Here is one example of a asus b350 bios interface: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

In short, you can disable AI overclock tuner and oc tuner, then manually set the cpu core ratio. Try with a lower setting to see how the temps manage and then you can always push it higher, if need be

I've seen a test of that CPU where it idles at 38C. The site also said to make sure the software used measure Tdie for being correct and not tCTL.

If it doesn't crash at load, it is most likely a software bug. As most CPUs will crash at around 100C

BIOS does not have an idle c-state, so the CPU will always run hotter in BIOS than in an idle state in Windows. 50C in BIOS would be pretty normal i guess.

Thanks for inputs. After all these days, I found out it was a software bug. It runs idle at 35-40 degrees and load at 60 with peaks of 65. I guess that okay, with an almost closed case.

I will start looking for B350 tutorials for OC and volting. Thanks all.
