Symantec Gateway Security Appliance 5420 is a next-generation firewall appliance providing seven essential security functions for maximum effectiveness, while reducing the complexity of security management. The appliance provides strong security at the gateway between the Internet and corporate network or between network segments. As the industry's most comprehensive firewall appliance, it integrates full inspection firewall technology, an anomaly intrusion detection and prevention engine, URL-based content filtering, award-winning antivirus protection, and IPsec-compliant virtual private networking technology with hardware-assisted high-speed encryption.
The series integrates seamlessly with the Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture, enabling a range of advanced management and reporting capabilities. The appliance can be managed by the standalone Symantec Gateway Management Interface for local management or via the Advanced Manager plug-in. With the optional SESA plug-in, administrators can manage security policies through the central console for hundreds or even thousands of appliances. An optional Event Manager plug-in is also available to provide centralized logging, alerting, and reporting. And timely upds of new virus definitions, attack signatures, and URL lists are delivered automatically via Symantec's LiveUpdate .
To meet the needs of any size organization, the series offers three models, all with integrated high availability and load balancing. With its clustering capabilities, it can provide high-performance security for environments ranging from small offices to distributed campuses with tens of thousands of nodes, while delivering throughput that scales from 200 Mbps to more than 3.5 Gbps.
