Konklusion
Pris - 3

hereUK Summary
We've reached the end of the road with our test of HIS' newest midrange graphics card. The card is characterised by being fast, silent and well-cooled. The design of the cooler is probably the coolest I've ever seen - especially as it blows air out of the case. This is nothing new, but Arctic Cooling has been straying off their path in this respect for a while, so its nice to see that they've finally re-found their old mood. In regards to performance, the card dominates the low-midrange cards, but this is not a surprise. In comparison to the HD3850 it is impressive to see what has happened since the old generation. Unfortunately the power consumption has risen a bit, but the adequately higher performance justifies this. The price is around DKK 1450 which is a tad to high considering the price of DKK 1100 for the standard HD4850. Obviously you get some exciting accessories and an extra fast card along with a world-class cooler, but it can be argued whether or not this justifies the additional price.
Innovation/Technology - 3
Not much has happened if we look at the technology since the last series from AMD. The foremost changes are seen on the performance-front. The number of transistors has been doubled and the amount of shaders has gone up from 320 to 800. This has had a really nice effect on the performance, but the power consumption has risen considerately. That's why it will only be a middle grade.
Bundle/Accessories - 4
Along with the HIS card comes a fine bundle. They've prioritised a fancy screwdriver above a game, which is a matter of taste. Besides that, all the most common cables and adaptors are included, but as the bundle is missing a game, the HIS card will only get a grade of 4 points.
Design/Layout - 5
As you readers might suspect I've grown kind fond of the cooler, and to some extent I feel that it should be the rolemodel for all coolers as it is very silent, well designed and very effective. It deserves 5 points.
Software - 3
The software (standard driver) delivered with this card worked without a hitch and that's why it shall receive 3 points.
Performance - 4
It's hard to say something really conclusive about the performance of this card judging from this test, but we did see that it gave the HD3850 a beating by several lengths, so there's clearly been made progress since the last generation. Aside from that, we've seen that it handles all games in their highest resolutions with the exception of Crysis, which is quite acceptable. What is funny about the HD4850, is that it stands without direct competition from nVidia, so if we look aside from the price of this card in particular, the HD4850 chip is still the-way-to-go if you want good performance without totally emptying your pockets.
Price - 3
As previously mentioned, the price is only close to being okay. The big question is if it's alright that the card is priced DKK 350 above the more standard models. Clearly there are alternatives if we look at the cooling, but I do think the IceQ4 cooler is the best, and that's why the HIS HD4850 sneaks itself to a middle-grade eventhough I find the card a bit pricy.
