Konklusion
Software/BIOS - 3
UK summary
Maybe Gigabyte has started a new trend for media centers. By using the Thin mini-ITX form factor it is now possible to build even smaller systems and still have sufficient CPU power show film and use a browser. For gaming, the platform is possible too small, since a dedicated graphic card is not too easy to mount on the motherboard, and with only one PCIe x4 port it is probably not the intention.
Innovation/Technology - 5
Taken into consideration that we have a new form factor, as compact as it possibly can get, and the fact that Gigabyte has found sufficient space for two mPCIe ports for WiFi cards and 1.8" SSD, I find that the card merits a score of 5.
Bundle/Accessories - 4
There is not much to be found in the box, but never the less Gigabyte has included everything necessary, and if you find yourself in the situation that the enclosure does not come with the necessary power cables, Gigabyte has included these as well.
Design/Layout - 4
I do not quite understand why Gigabyte has not put a PCIe x16 port on this board. By using the x4 port it is still possible to use x16 expansion cards, but they will of course only run at x4 speed. The platform has the PCIe lanes needed to support it, but Gigabyte has probably not been able to find the space to the long x16 port, since there are so many chips in the space where the port should have been placed. Apart from this, I find it difficult to see what Gigabyte could have done differently on this motherboard.
Software/BIOS - 3
Here, I have given the score of 3. We get no eye candy in this BIOS and the number of settings is limited. The board is not designed for a tweaker and overclocker, so the small number of settings in the BIOS is acceptable, but it would have been nice if their new UEFI BIOS had been included.
Performance - 3
I do not find the performance impressive, especially not in 3D, where the Intel NUC box with the same graphic card does it somewhat better. But the board opens up for use of a bigger CPU which also gives more power when needed. But anyhow, you will probably not assemble a system like this to be used for gaming.
Price - 3
The motherboard can be found to a price of DKK 900, which I find reasonable for the new form factor. The board makes a fine basis for a super compact system, still with the possibility for a good CPU.
