Som vanligt har jeg kørt tests i forlængelse af hinanden indtil, resultaterne ikke har nævneværdige afvigelser.
Udover de syntetiske benchmark programmer har jeg også IRL overførsel til og fra NAS, PC. Det er udelukkende for at holde de syntetiske benchmarks op imod det, man oplever i hverdagens situationer.
Raid0 er lavet med stripe size på 128K og Raid1 kan kun laves med stripe size på 64K. Der vil blive lavet et iSCSI, som bliver tilføjet som netværksdrev, og brugt som drag/drop ved testene.
I første omgang vil jeg lave den syntetiske benchmarks, og så holde det op imod den test, jeg har taget med dagligdags filer. Rækkefølgen bliver Raid0, Raid1, JBOD og iSCSI.

Efter endt test ville det ikke være helt forkert at sige, resultaterne er ens det meste af vejen. Den eneste sammensætning var JBOD, der opnåede bedste samlede resultater. iSCSI var den dårligste performer, mens Raid0 & 1 var meget tæt. Over hele linjen lå vi over 100MB/s i skrive, fra 512KB filer op til 8192KB. Sjældent godt resultat, og jeg var meget overrasket, da vi fik kigget på læse hastigheden. Enheden læste kun få gange over 90MB/s, og flest gange mellem 80-90MB/s. Jeg havde forventet en højere læsehastighed frem for en højere skrivehastighed.

I Crystal Disk Mark er resultatet stort set ikke forandret ligegyldig hvilket setup, man vælger. Resultatet var dog en smule dårligere på læse siden med en difference på 30-40MB/s. Dog skillede læsehastigheden sig væsentlig ud på iSCSI drevet. Det er muligvis pga. den integration Windows har med iSCSI enheder, at de arbejdet bedre end en ekstern disk som en NAS.

På trods af mange forsøg lykkedes det mig aldrig at få RAID0 til at virke ordentligt til denne test. Jeg kunne ikke få skrive hastigheden højere op, alligevel skulle resultatet med. Det samme gjorde sig gældende for JBOD. Men Raid1 var helt i front og viste virkelig, hvor meget NASPerformanceTester kan få NAS’en til at yde.
Om det så også gælder i virkeligheden, at vi kan få disse syntetisk fremstillede hastigheden frem, vil jeg prøve at vise herunder.
Første test, hvor jeg vil overføre en film på 44GB fra min egen HDD i computeren over på NAS’en.

Det tog ca. 9-10 minutter at overføre 44GB (1627 filer). Det gav en overførselshastighed på ca. 75MB/s. Ganske fornuftigt, når det nu var blandede filer af både meget små og én enkelt stor fil.
Som en afsluttende test, har jeg nogle filstørrelse, som jeg vil teste med.
4096 filer a 4 KB = 16 MB
1024 filer a 64 K = 64 MB
200 filer a 10 MB = 2 GB
1 fil a 2 GB.
Raid 0 løsningen giver egentlig nogle ret fine resultater. Skrive hastigheden er stadig den hurtigste.

Som opsummering vil jeg lige kort ridse op, hvad mine mål var med de to typer tests samt de forskellige resultater.
De syntetiske tests var meget forskellige, og resultaterne var også meget varierede. Dog var det en stor fordel at gøre brug af iSCSI, det var svært at lave en test med rigtige filer, da ”enkelt” størrelse filer blev lagt i en cache, og man fik en unaturlig hastighed, mere end hvad et gigabit netværk kan håndtere pr. sek. Men oplevelse var klart den bedste, at de løsninger der var mulighed for at gøre brug af.
Oplevelsen og de resultater jeg fik med de hverdagsagtige tests, var en hastighed nær det samme som med mine almindelig lagerdiske i min stationære computer. Jeg kunne ikke mærke den store forskel om, jeg var på intern disk eller om jeg brugte NAS’en.
