Lidt om teknologi
Som skrevet i introduktionen, er denne barebone et monster uden lige. Du kan smide op til 16 GB RAM i maskinen, der (pga. Core i7 platformen, som du kan læser mere om hér: http://hwt.dk/literaturedetails.aspx?LiteratureID=11387 ) er koblet direkte til CPU'en - eftersom controlleren til RAM nu er direkte indbygget. Chipsættet har derfor en relativt simpel opgave ved udelukkende at skulle koncentere sig om det perifære udstyr såsom: lagerenheder, PCI-e bussen og deslige udvidelser såsom USB. Selve arkitekturen/platformen (også kaldet Nehalem) er intet mindre end imponerende. Det er en slags LEGO-klods princip, hvor delene - løst oversat - kan kobles sammen og skalérer i bedste fald derefter. Lidt a lá tankegangen bag Voodoo GPU'erne.
Jeg skal være ærlig, og på forhånd indrømme, at jeg ikke er ekspert udi hvordan det virker og hvorfor det gør som det gør. Jeg ved blot, at det er sweeeet! [Eric Cartman style].
En anden detalje er, at der nu skulle være mulighed for SLI og Crossfire på det samme Intel-baserede bundkort. Selvfølgelig har Shuttle tænkt på gamerne med alt for mange penge, og givet os den mulighed. Der er er altså lagt i ovnen til en solid workstation, der rent faktisk pryder kontoret.
Der er to LAN-stik med mulighed for Gigabit hastigheder (1.000 Mbps). Men alt det, tager vi ved præsentationen. Lad os kigge lidt nærmere på specifikationerne.
