Test: Foxconn C51XEM2AA - nForce 5

Konklusion

Foxconn er kommet som et lyn fra en klar himmel ind på bundkortmarkedet for AMDs Athlon 64 processorer. Baseret på NVIDIAs nForce 590 SLI chipsæt og NVIDIAs referencekort, har C51XEM2AA alle forudsætningerne for at blive et kick-ass bundkort og Foxconn har forstået at udnytte dette til fulde. Foxconns mål om at få et større brand end Asus og erobre entusiasterne er måske ikke så tosset endda. Hvis Foxconn leverer flere bundkort af samme kvalitet som C51XEM2AA, har Asus klart noget at være bange for. Foxconn er på vej frem og undertegnede skal gerne være blandt de første, til at anskaffe sig et bundkort med Foxconns navn på.



Foxconn C51XEM2AA kontra Asus M2N32SLI-Deluxe Wireless Edition:

Ydelsesmæssigt ligger de to bundkort side om side takket være AMDs integrerede RAM controller, hvorfor det kan være lige meget om man vælger det ene eller det andet.

For entusiasten og overclockeren har Foxconn klart den bedste BIOS - både funktionelt og layoutmæssigt. Eneste grund til at vælge Asus ville være, at man bedre kan lide det layout Asus bruger til BIOS. Mht. overclocking er Foxconn på ingen måde et dårligt bud, men Asus er bare bedre på nuværende tidspunkt.

Layoutmæssigt er begge bundkort i den bedre ende, men begge har også småfejl. Asus bruger dog et stort og visuelt imponerende heatpipe kølesystem, men de temperaturer, som det leverer, er langt fra imponerende. Godt nok er det passivt, men der er også grænser.

Prismæssigt ligger de to bundkort meget ens, men Asus vinder i sidste ende, pga. en lidt større bundle, trådløst netværkkort og bedre resultater på overclocking fronten.



Innovation/Teknologi: 5
Et nyt chipsæt og en hel masse nye og innovative teknologier. Teaming, Firstpacket, EPP - listen kunne foresættes langt endnu. Ingen tvivl på dette punkt, en klokkeklar topscore.

Bundle/Tilbehør: 4
Foxconn har helt klart en af de bedre bundles på markedet, med kabler og brackets til samtlige porte på bundkortet. Det eneste det afholder Foxconn fra topkarakteren er, at f.eks. Asus sætter prikken over i'et med en del software, som Foxconn ikke har i pakken.

Design/Layout: 4
Foxconn har et ganske udmærket layout, men der er alligevel et par ting, som man kan sætte fingre på. Placeringen af det nederste molex strømstik bør ændres, en anden eller ingen lås på PCI-Express x16 portene og så ville det være at foretrække, hvis South Bridge chippen blev placeret, så denne kunne vandkøles uden brug af low profile kølehoveder. På plussiden er onboard Reset og Power knapper, fejludlæsning på 7-segment LED display, onboard PC speaker og lave temperaturer på de to kølere med et samtidigt lavt støjniveau.

Software/BIOS: 5
I software delen er der ikke så meget at sætte fingre på. NVIDIAs nTune har fået en kæmpe overhaling og er blevet et helt og aldeles hæderligt program. Dertil kommer Nortons Internet Security 2006 og Fox LiveUpdate, til at opdatere BIOS. På BIOS siden har NVIDIA og Foxconn virkelig lagt sig i selen. Der er nogle meget små ting, som kan tælles på én hånd, hvor f.eks. DFI lige er en tand bedre, men til gengæld er der også mange nye ting. Alt i alt er det den bedste BIOS undertegnede hidtil har haft fingrene i. Endnu en klokkeklar topscore.

Ydelse: 4
Ydelsesmæssigt ligger bundkortet side om side med tilsvarende bundkort. Dette skyldes primært AMDs integrerede RAM controller, hvorfor der ikke er så meget at komme efter på dette punkt. Mht. til overclocking, så er Foxconn rigtig godt med. Der mangler dog lidt endnu, før 1.-pladsen kan indtages, så en topkarakter må vente.

Pris: 3
Prisen er i den dyrere ende. Der er endnu ikke dansk pris, men i USD ligger prisen på nuværende tidspunkt omkring 210 $. På det danske markede, kan vi forvente, at dette bliver til knap 1.800 kr. - en pris som ligger et godt stykke over tidligere topmodeller til Athlon 64. Sammenligner man med Asus' M2N32-SLI Deluxe, så er priserne nogenlunde de samme, til gengæld har Asus en større bundle end Foxconn - det må blive til en middelkarakter.

Foxconn is like a thunder and lightning from a clear sky and have arrived on the marked for AMD Athlon 64 processors. Based on the nVidia nForce 590 SLi chipset and the nVidia reference card the C51XEM2AA has all the conditions to be a kick-ass motherboard and Foxconn has suggested to use it fully. Foxconns primary target is to get a larger brand than ASUS and conquer the hearts of the enthusiast and maybe it isn't bad at all. If Foxconn can create more board of the same caliber as C51XEM2AA, ASUS defiantly has something to be afraid of. Foxconn is on their way to success and I will be among the first to buy a board with the Foxconn name on it.

Foxconn C51XEM2AA versus ASUS M2N32SLI-Deluxe Wireless Edition:

Performance compared the two board are very close thanks to AMD's integrated RAM controller, and that is why it is unimportant which board you buy.

For the enthusiast and the over clocker Foxconn can deliver the best BIOS - both functionally and by the layout. The only reason to choose ASUS would be that if you like the BIOS layout on the ASUS board better. When it comes to over clocking Foxconn isn't a bad choice at all, but ASUS is still better at the moment.

Talking about the layout both board are good, but they both good issues too. ASUS uses a big visual impressing heat pipe cooling solution, but the temperatures shows that it is far from impressing. Okay its passive, but there is limits.

The price on the boards is nearly the same, but ASUS wins in the end because of a bigger bundle, wireless network and better over clocking results.

Innovation / Technology: 5 points
A brand new chipset and a lot of new and innovative technologies; Teaming, FirstPacket, EPP - the list could go on for hours. No doubt that this results in top score.

Bundle / Accessories: 4 points
Foxconn defiantly has one of the best bundles on the marked; cables and brackets to the entire ports on the motherboard. The only thing that keeps the board from getting top score is that ASUS enclose a lot of software with their board and Foxconn don't.

Design / Layout: 4 points
Foxconn has a very good layout, but there are still some small things that you can point out. The placement of the bottom molex connector should be moved, some sort of lock on the PCI-express x16 slots would also be nice, and if the south bridge chip where placed so it could be water cooled without using low-profile water blocks all would be great. On the plus side is onboard reset and power buttons, error code 7-segment LED display, onboard PC speaker and low temperatures on two cooling solutions combined with low noise.

Software / BIOS: 5 points
The software part doesn't leave much to point at either. nVidia nTune has been face lifted and is now a great and usable program. In addition Norton Internet Security 2006 and Fox LiveUpdate, to watch and update the BIOS are included with the package. Talking about the BIOS nVidia and Foxconn has made a great product. There are a few very small mistakes that can be counted on less than five fingers. DFI is a little better, but in return there are a lot of new features. All in all it is one of the best BIOS I have ever seen. Once again I must give top score.

Performance: 4 points
On performance the motherboards gets almost the same results. It happens primary because of the AMD integrated RAM controller, and that is why there isn't much to watch out for.
Talking about over clocking Foxconn is really good, but some levels are still missing before they will have the 1. place so the top score must wait.

Price: 3 points
The price is very expensive. It has not yet been possible to get a Danish price, but in USA the price of the board is 210$. On the Danish marked we can expect that the price are going to be around 1.800,- DKK, a price that is levels above earlier top models for Athlon 64. If you compare it with ASUS M2N32-SLi Deluxe the prices are almost the same. In return the ASUS board has a greater bundle than Foxconn - so I will give an average score.
