Overclocking

And now to the part where we're supposed to find out if there's any truth in AMD's rumor, the so-called 'headroom'. We can translate the word to OC-potential, which has quite frankly been one of the old Phenom-series of processors major disappointments.

We managed to bump the Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition up to 3750 MHz - which was achieved by changing the following settings in the BIOS:

  • Multiplier 14 -> 15
  • Bus-speed 200 -> 250 MHz
  • HT Link 2.0 GHz -> 2.5 GHz
  • vCore 1.35 -> 1.55v

- This is a 34% increase of clock-frequency compared to the standard speed. Lets see how the numbers change accordingly.

We'll summarize on the next page. It'll take a little longer than usual as there are quite many graphs and numbers to digest.
