Test: Asus N20a

Konklusion

Asus N20a er endnu en af Asus's fremragende bærbare til folk på farten, hvor hardwaredelen og softwaredelen har fået en ansigtsopløftning. N20a er modsat andre subnotes en bærbar hvor der ikke er gået på kompromis, da man får en yderst hurtig maskine med masser har harddiskplads for pengene.

Innovation/Teknologi - 5

Især Express Gate, ansigtsgenkendelse, men også den nyeste Centrino 2 platform (retail version) samt en fremragende skærm er nogle af de ting der gør at Asus får topkarakter i denne kategori. HDMI, eSATA, HSDPA  er der også. Blue-ray og wireless USB mangler dog, men det kan tilgives.

Bundle/Tilbehør - 4

Bundlen i review version var sparret væk, men i retailudgaven har Asus flottet sig med både mus og taske.

Design/Layout - 3

Designet på N20a er rimeligt. Desværre falder N20a lidt igennem på Asien fænomenet, hvor blank er et kvalitetsstempel. Det giver nogle rigtig fedtet overflader især ved skærmen , men også ved touchpadden. Det gør at N20a ikke helt får det eksklusive look som man kunne ønske.

 Software/BIOS - 4

 Softwaren i Asus N20a er der en del af, størstedelen af Asus' egetudviklet. Express Gate er igen her et nyt og spændende koncept, som man kan håbe også kommer til at indeholde f.eks. gendannelsesværktøjer. Selve recovery delen er lidt bøvlet i kraft af, at man skal min. have 2 DVDer - her ville en servicepartition eller én DVD løsning være at foretrække.

Ydelse - 4

N20a er med den nyeste Centrino 2 platform en ganske habil yder. 3D performance falder dog lidt igennem, da Intels X4500 ikke ligefrem er super hurtigt, hvilket dog først har betydning når man spiller 3D spil. Batterilevetiden på 2,5 time er god  og hiver et ekstra point hjem.

Pris - 3

Prisen for N20a er små 8000, hvilket lyder af mange penge. Men for disse får man også en subnote med HDMI, en stor harddisk samt mange nye teknologier. Det er også småt med konkurrenter. Det eneste man ikke rigtig får er en spillemaskine, da det integreret X4500 ikke er kraftig nok til i spil.

UK summary

The Asus N20a is another one of Asus many brilliant laptops for the people on the go. Both software and the hardware platform is brand new. N20a is a subnote where there is no compromises, you get a lot of power and a lot of harddrive space. 

Innovation/Technology - 5

Face recognition , but also the newest Centrino 2 platform (retail edition) and an excellent display makes Asus get the highest score in the category. eSATA, HDMI and HSDPA Modem is also in the tested N20a. Blue ray and Wireless USB is however missing.

Bundle/Accessories - 4

The bundle in the retail version Asus has both an optical mouse and an excellent bag.

Design/Layout - 3

The design of the N20a is dull. Unfortunately N20a suffers from the “Asian phenomenon”, where shiny surfaces mean quality. This just sucks grease and finger spots all over the place, even on the touchpad buttons. This makes the N20a to looks less exclusive than you could hope for.

Software/BIOS - 4

There are a lot of clever software solutions in the N20a. Express Gate is a new and interesting concept and one could hope in the (near) future it also contains recovery tools etc. The recovery DVD was a little messy, since you have to have to DVDs. A service partition or one DVD would be a lot easier.

Performance - 4

With the newest Centrino 2 platofrm, the N20a is pretty fast without getting hot. The 3D performance is not great, but the N20a is not meant to be a choice for the 3D gamers. The battery is pretty good with 2.5 hour of living and gets an extra point here.

Price - 3

For a price of 8000 DKR you get a subnote with HDMI, big harddrive and a lot of new technology. The only thing you do not get is a gamer machine, but less demanding games can the X4500 handle.
