Konklusion
Dette vil have trukket op i bedømmelsen.
BIOS virker lidt tam pga. manglende mulighed for overclock.
UK summary
Shuttle SZ87R6 excels by being flexible when it comes to the usage. Because you have to find RAM, HDD/SSD, optical drive, CPU and GPU by yourself, you can build exactly the machine that you need, whether it is for office, solitaire or the newest FPS game. You can tailor the computer to suit your needs and get this beautiful enclosure. The machine was quiet during the tests, and not once have I considered the noise as being annoying, I were sitting 1 meter from it. It makes a lot of noise in the first few seconds during startup, as all computers do. It is not as good as similar setups, however, it is not far behind.
I have found these negative aspects of the SZ87R6:
-
No overclock, not even after BIOS update.
-
No mounting holes for 2.5" SSD/HDD
You can use this XPC for just about anything. It is a nice little compact computer. It is only the hardware that you install that sets the limits. A 2.5" to 3.5" converter would have been nice to have included, instead of being optional.
Innovation/Technology - 4
I like the concept where you build your own computer and Shuttle delivers the foundation. You feel that it is a product that has been pampered by using good materials and the assembly quality is top notch. Innovation-wise it is now possible to overclock a barebone and build a relatively hefty gaming machine.
Bundle/Accessories - 3
There are the screw you need. I need some 2.5" converters to give it a better rating. There are enough SATA cables to get started, but I would have liked two additional cables, one for each SATA slot on the motherboard. I am happy to see, however, that Shuttle thought of cooling pasta.
Design/Layout - 4
I like the design. It fits in everywhere. It is a fingerprint magnet though. The brushed aluminum looks good and the features of the motherboard are plentiful. There are everything you need. Shuttle has made a nice solid XPC.
Software/BIOS - 3
There are the drivers and a little extra software in the shape of backup software. The BIOS seems a bit outdated due to missing overclock options. Even freak_master tears his hair ;-). Software package seems a little tame, but I don't think that anything is missing. But some may use this XPC on the flat screen in the living room and I would say that Blu-ray playback software would have been more useful than backup software.
Performance - 4
I think that it performs well with the setup, putting aside the heavy gaming. In some tests it was competing with another machine with similar specifications in regard to chipset, CPU, GPU and RAM, and they were even in some cases, while in others the SZ87R6 was left behind, not by far though. The rating of 4 is given because it performs very well compared to its size.
Price - 4
The price seems fair. You get a nice enclosure, PSU and motherboard. They have really given thought to the details and you are missing the components that defines the machine as either an office, gaming or living room machine, such as CPU, GPU, RAM and HDD/SSD and optical drive. The extra DKK 332 compared to its predecessor is justified with the better PSU, brushed aluminum and better cooling system, which now has 4 heatpipes, whereas the old one had 3.
